Shadows to Create Professional Images of Scarves

Your scarf product images will look better than ever by applying these shadows!

The presence or absence of shadows can make a big difference in your product images. The reason is that the shadows help to highlight the products on simple, unicolor backgrounds, and give them a professional appearance and more faithful to reality.

There are two types of shadows that go very well, applied to scarves and garments in general: natural shade and parallel shadow. Each of these styles give a different perception to the client. There is no "ideal" shadow. The important thing is that you choose one that you like and apply it to all the products in your catalog so that there is consistency, and your online store looks very pro!

The following tutorial helps you keep track of how to apply these types of shadows correctly. However, it is important that we also talk about the alignment in your products. If you would like to get a photo editing service, contact them.

Be consistent yes or yes

Keep in mind that the images in your web catalog should look similar; When a customer sees your images you should know that they are from the same catalog. To achieve this you must apply the same lighting, background type , editing techniques, etc. If you develop a set of standards for these aspects, and apply them to all the product images of your online store, you will make it look very professional and your customers will have a better , simpler and clearer shopping experience .

It is particularly important to grant the same size and alignment to the images. Look at the examples of product sheets that we present below. You will notice how each product looks identical and very professional.

Shadow Type # 1: Natural Shadow

The natural shade is excellent to give a more sophisticated look to a product. If applied correctly, natural shade can be very effective!

You will need a light source during the photo shoot to capture natural shadows, although using reflectors can also help soften them.

Create a new layer and fill it with a white background.

Move your newly created layer below the others.

Duplicate the cape with the scarf.

Make a very precise selection of the contour of the scarf and soften the edges of the garment.

Create a mask using the selection. Depending on how you make the selection you would have to invert the mask to make sure the scarf is shown instead of the bottom.

Modify the duplicate of the layer with the scarf to multiple, in the upper tab of the dialog bar.

Create a layer with a mask in the middle of your multiple layer, and try to erase the background under the scarf.

Put all the layers together.

Shadow Style # 2: Parallel Shadow

The parallel shadow gives a more interesting effect to the product images. They imitate shadows created from the impact of natural light, and make it appear that the product is lying on a surface. Scarves should always be photographed lying down. It is a simple way to bring the product to life.

Create a new layer and fill it with a white background.

Move the new layer below all others.

Make an accurate selection of the scarf and soften the edges.

Create a mask using this selection. Depending on whether you select the bottom of the scarf, you would have to reverse the mask to make sure that the scarf is what you see instead of the bottom.

Double-click the layer with the scarf to open the layer's style function.

Check the parallel shadow option. A shadow will appear.

Play with the opacity of the shadow until it is to your liking.

Change the angle at which the shadow falls on the product, so that it is the same as the direction of light on it. Consider the distance between the product and the light source.

Select "OK."

Make the mask more visible with the selection so that you cannot see anything from the original background.

Put the layers together.

These types of shadows can do a lot for your product images, giving customers a realistic and simple experience of "feeling" an online product. This will help them want to repeat in your store!
